Life right now is tough for many of us – we are dealing with many changes in our lives, families, and communities. New challenges are impacting our daily lives and for many of us these are compounding issues that may already have been a struggle. Often those around us and the systems we deal with can make us feel judged, invalidated, hopeless and helpless. It is hard to navigate these experiences alone, especially when we do not always have the supports, resources, or coping skills that we need to manage. Therapy can help us feel not so alone and can equip us with skills to feel more confident in ourselves and our lives. It can help us put to rest things that have been bothering us from the past. Taking that first step can be intimidating, but it is worth it!
I work from a strengths-based, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed framework and believe that each of us has intrinsic value regardless of who we are. I bring warmth, empathy, compassion, and experience to the therapeutic relationship. I have been providing therapy in both private and public practice for 10+ years. I am non-judgmental and have experience in a range of issues, including stress and anxiety, depression, childhood trauma/abuse, acute trauma, intergenerational trauma, grief, coping with illness, foster care and adoption, and much more.
I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process between you and your therapist. Whether you are looking for a formal, structured therapeutic approach, or a more informal, eclectic approach, our plan for working together can be tailored to your goals and needs. Safety in therapy and in the therapeutic relationship is number one and this will always be prioritized in our sessions.
I am trained in a variety of approaches and have been fortunate enough to have received specialized training Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). If you have experiences from the past that are keeping you stuck, if distressing memories are impacting your life in the present, if you have tried talk therapies before and you are looking for a different type of evidence-based therapy, then EMDR might be worth exploring!
